Whatsapp – A New Record On New Year’s Eve

WhatsApp is the most popular and widely used social application/platform in the world and because of this, it’s a pretty normal occurrence to record an extraordinarily large number of message exchange and media exchange each and every day. That being said, however, on New Year’s Eve, a totally groundbreaking message and media exchange record were set by WhatsApp. According to WhatsApp, users on the social platform on New Year’s Eve exchanged more than 100b messages all within the span of 24 hours. It was further revealed that 20 billion out of the 100billion messages shared were exchanged by just Indian users only and 12 billion out of over 100 billion messages shared were images exchanged by users. This groundbreaking event took place from the 31st of December, 2019 up until New Year’s Eve. It’s no surprise that such would happen on a day such as that but it’s on a totally different level.

Over 100 billion messages within 24h

WhatsApp in a press release wrote that 100 billlion+ messages and media were exchanged globally among WhatsApp users and that this ridiculously large number took place within 24 hours on the 31st December 2019 up until the midnight of the New Year’s Eve. They said that this volume of messages is the highest ever recorded for a single day since WhatsApp began its services in the last decade.

Besides the total volume of messages within a single day, also worthy of note is the contribution of the Indians to this feat. According to WhatsApp, 20 billion+ messages were shared by Indians, and that nearly amounts up to one-fifth of the net volume of exchanged messages. It’s not a surprise, based on the fact that WhatsApp comprises more of Indian users with rapid growth in their numbers. As an added consideration, WhatsApp commented that the most popular feature of WhatsApp is text-messaging, having other features merely revolving around it.
