Introduction of Classic Novels to Instagram by the New York Public Library

February 23, 2020

It is challenging to see people in the current generation taking a book and literally reading it till the end. They have gone mad with the use of mobile phones, laptops, and computers. The New York Public library saw this, and it teamed up with Mother New York, a problem-solving agency. They came up with a remedy that involved bringing novels to Instagram.  They decided to use Instagram since it seemed to have more of the young generation using it. They named the project ‘Insta Novels.”

In the beginning, the project seemed impossible, but with time, it grew to take the international media by surprise. Within this period, it saw its Instagram follower base increase by close to 75%. The first book to be featured in this project was Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventure in Wonderland. Over the next few months, it saw the New York Public Library post several other books. They include ‘The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman and The ‘Metamorphosis’ by Cesar Pelizer.

It was brilliant to bring literature into the digital limelight that offered services to close to 400 million. In Insta Novels, you are provided with images that help you understand better what you are reading. The most exciting part about Insta Novels is that it has small animations that come to life when you tap quickly through the pages. This brings the experience close to what it feels when going through pages to find a chapter that you like most.  One setback of Insta Novels on Instagram is that just like other Instagram stories, they disappear after 24 hours. To solve this problem, The New Yolk Public Library adds all the books onto their highlights bar, which makes their Instagram account look like a bookshelf that anyone can access at any given time. The New York Public Library’s main aim is to bring all books into the digital platform.
